PADI® Master Scuba Diver certification: the Ultimate Step of the Recreational Diver

5 Specialties

Reach the highest non-professional level of the PADI Diver Education System!

back-jumping-diver-from-boat-dive-instructor-koh-tao

The Master Scuba Diver rating makes you stand out from the crowd. It is the highest certification that you can acquire before going pro! You gain this level through a significant amount of experience and scuba training that you have accumulated over your diving lifetime.

PADI Master Scuba Diver level means you have completed the Rescue Diver course, 5 PADI Specialty Courses, and logged at least 50 dives.

Requirements before getting started

Open Water Diver > Advanced Open Water > Rescue Diver Certifications

To begin your path of becoming a PADI Master Scuba Diver, you have to start with the basics. You need a PADI Open Water Diver certification, which teaches the basics of scuba diving and allows you to dive down to an 18 meters depth.

Then, you need a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification, reinforcing your knowledge from the Open Water course and adding new skills such as navigation. After that, you can go down to 30 meters freely.

After the Advanced Course comes the PADI Rescue Diver certification requirement. With a bit of a different course, you will learn how to tackle potential issues that may arise during diving. You will learn how to handle emergencies, grow your confidence as a diver and become the best possible buddy possible.

Let's choose your PADI® 5 Specialties!

Once you have all the core courses, it's time to expand your repertoire. There are loads of specs that you can choose from to spark your interest. If there is something special you love, we guarantee there'll be a specialty course about it!

You will need 5 PADI specialties to qualify for Master Scuba Diver.

Each specialty course will teach you new skills and knowledge. But, some specialties give you an extra certification. Showing those certifications to dive centers will release new diving adventures!

We recommend you to chose at least those 3 specs below:

- Deep Diver qualifies you to 40m and gives extra training on emergency procedures

- Enriched Air allows you to use NITROX and teach you to analyze your tanks and plan for extended bottom times

- Wreck Diver trains you to assess wrecks for hazards and also to penetrate them safely using lines.

If you combine all three of those specs, you will have some severe adventures here in Koh Tao!

    IMPORTANT! -Flying after Diving

When planning your diving trip and your journey toward your destinations, always remember that you must not fly directly after scuba diving. It accentuates the risk of having decompression sickness.

    diver-do-not-fly-for-18-hours-after-diving

The PADI guidelines are to NOT FLY during a 12 hours interval after a single dive and 18 hours after multiple dives. As often when it comes to scuba diving, take a conservative approach to safety, and whenever possible, avoid flying the next 24 hours after a dive.

If you intend to do multiple dives on different days during your trip, consider buying your own dive computer, as it will calculate the optimal time to fly based on your diving history.

Even more than other outdoor sports, diving is weather- and sea-dependent. Be aware that some sites might be inaccessible on certain days and that diving trips might be canceled due to dangerous conditions.

Luckily, Thailand has a fantastic climate almost all year round and this happens very rarely.
