Where to dive in Thailand?
Thailand scuba diving is generally not considered challenging.
Conditions might differ depending on the season and the location you plan to dive in Thailand. See our advice below for the best time to dive into each site in Thailand.
Diving in Koh Tao
Koh Tao is a 21 km² island, part of the Chumphon Archipelago on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand.
The underwater scenery is awe-inspiring, with coral-encrusted rocky pinnacles, bustling reefs, and stunning shipwrecks.
Diving in Koh Tao is exceptionally relaxing and enjoyable. Koh Tao has the most accessible conditions of all Thailand diving destinations. Those easy conditions make it perfect for learning scuba diving, including additional specialties like Wreck diving, Deep diving, or Nitrox.
Koh Tao offers various dive sites. Most of the diving sites are located around the famous Koh Nang Yuan island, thus within close range from the Diving center. Japanese garden dive site, located on one side of Koh Nang Yuan island, is an easy dive, 15m deep, with beach access and massive diversity in marine life. The Twins Pinnacle dive site is on the other side of Koh Nang Yuan island, between 5m and 20m deep. It is the most popular dive site, protected by the island. Twins Pinnacle dive site offers the best diving conditions.
Wreck diving is the very definition of adventure. The HTMS Sattakut is a WW2 Wreck between 18 and 30 meters deep and is another very accessible dive site from Koh Tao island. You should consider visiting this Wreck!
Chumphon Pinnacle is a fantastic dive site between Koh Tao and Chumpon, from 15m to 40m deep. Chumphon Pinnacle offers all the diversity of Thailand's marine life, including Wale Sharks, if you are lucky.
Coral Grand Divers proposes a day trip to Sail Rock on Saturdays. Sail Rock is a famous diving spot between Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. Get in touch with our team to include Sail Rock in your diving trip.
Diving in Koh Lanta
Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are fantastic dive sites located in Mu Koh Lanta National Park, 100 km south of Phuket, and are among the best dive sites in the Andaman sea and Thailand.
Hin Daeng and Hin Muang are world-class dive sites with a high chance of seeing Manta Rays and Whale Sharks.
Diving in Koh Phi Phi
Koh Phi Phi is a group of six islands. Koh Phi Phi offers spectacular scenery, crystal clear waters, and abundant coral reefs, making it a must for diving. Discover the richness of the seabed, which is home to an abundance of corals and incredible marine life, all in protected waters.
Besides their world-renowned charm, Koh Phi Phi islands became even more famous when Danny Boyle directed the movie "The Beach." Leonardo DiCaprio is the main character in this movie, made in 1998. The film takes place in Maya Bay.
The archipelago of Koh Phi Phi consists of two main islands. Koh Phi Phi Don is the largest island with hotels and restaurants. Koh Phi Phi Ley is wilder and offers an exceptional natural environment particularly suitable for diving in Koh Phi Phi. Among the most famous diving spots of the Phi Phi Islands, we distinguish Bida Nok, Bida Nai, and Loh Sama Bay.
Diving in Koh Lipe
Koh Lipe is a small island located in the southern part of the Andaman Sea. Koh Lipe is located in the province of Satun, near the island of Langkawi (Malaysia), about 70 km from the mainland. Koh Lipe is the only inhabited island in the Butang group, part of the Tarutao National Park of 51 islands. Today Koh Lipe attracts tourists from all over the world with its stunning beaches and excellent diving sites.
The most famous dive site near Koh Lipe is 8 Mile Rock, named after its distance from Koh Lipe. 8 Mile Rock (or Eight Mile Rock) is a pinnacle with a top location at 15 meters below the surface and is surrounded by depths of 50 meters. It is covered by purple and pink-colored soft corals. Marine life is diverse and plentiful here, with regular sightings of whale sharks, leopard sharks, barracudas, and hidden frogfish.
A few kilometers north of Koh Lipe is Hin Chabang, another beautiful coral garden with much marine life common to the Andaman Sea. Hin Chabang is a pinnacle with the top only a few meters below the surface and a maximum depth of 16 meters, which makes the Hin Chabang site very accessible to Open Water divers.
Like most dive sites in the Andaman Sea, Hin Chabang is subject to tidal currents, but it is usually possible to find sanctuary on either side. The current is also essential to bring the nutrients the corals need, and they strive on the Hin Chabang dive site! It also brings pelagics, and it is not uncommon to encounter tunas or even Manta rays.
Hin Chabang is one of Thailand's most beautiful dive sites, with sandy patches covered in whip coral protecting commensal shrimp, seahorses, strange muck diving creatures, and very dense coral covering the rocks.
When to dive in Thailand?
